Against the Current

It was a beautiful summer day.

Although, for one with as much fur as Rubicon, it felt like a sauna. Even though there was a slight overcast because of the clouds, sunlight still managed to sneak it's way through. It warmed his pelt and made it feel hot to the touch. But, the wolf was used to it by now. Eventually his pelt would thin out and make traveling in the heat easier. It was a wonder it hadn't done so already. He shrugged and continued walking towards the edge of the river. It was a just a little late this year he guessed.

Purple tongue hanging out in an effort to cool himself off a bit, Rubicon took a few more steps before stopping in front of the shimmering water of the Leigris River. He smiled to himself and took in a deep breath, taking in the calming scents of the fresh water. This had to be one of his favorite places in all of Perenar. The smells of the river calmed his nervous attitude, which was sometimes a hard task to accomplish. Letting out a breath in a content sigh, he sat down on the bank, lifting his hind leg up to scratch an annoying itch behind his ear. Suddenly, he noticed more then a few strands of his own fur flew past his nose. He was finally shedding his winter coat. About time. He thought, putting his legs back on the ground and letting out a long yawn.

Rubicon looked around before slowly getting to his feet and wading into the shallows of the river. He made sure not to go in too far so the current didn't take him away. He may be able to revive others, but he couldn't revive himself. Shaking off the fur that was just starting to become loose, he lowered his head and took a look at his reflection. He was alone in his reflection, as if he expected anything different. Sometimes, he just wished he could find a friend to travel with.

Rubicon's ear twitched as an odd sound hit it. He rose a brow and just stayed still, attempting to identify the sound. It was getting louder and louder by the second. And, he could of swore it was...

A scream? Rubicon immediately looked around, not seeing anything out of the ordianry around him. Where was the screaming coming from? Suddenly, it hit him. The wolf looked up to the sky just in time to see a large, lupine creature above him. His amber eyes widened and his mouth opened wide in awe and surprise. How- where was she falling from? A cloud? When the creature hit the water with a loud splash, the stunned Rubicon jumped, well, more like stumbled back and fell into the water. He sat there for a good two seconds until the reality of the situation sunk in. Someone just fell from the sky. How was that possible? He reacted in the only way he knew how to. He screamed.

"AHHHHHHHHH!" Rubicon let out a loud scream, his eyes now wide with fear as the wolf got out of the water, acting like nothing happened. Not only that, but it was walking on two legs! He sure hoped it wasn't some kind of human. He stopped screaming and bit his tongue as he heard another voice behind him. Was there more? Did they come to kill him or something? Or was it just one big coincidence? His thoughts were interrupted as pain finally set in. Man, he bit his tongue hard! Tearing up a little, he turned around to face the three newcomers.

"H-Hoo are ou?" Rubicon attempted to asked but not being able to talk well because of his sore tongue. His brown ears were down and his tail was between his legs slightly. He just hoped this guys didn't want to eat him or something.
