The Blue Ballad [COMPLETE]

VG rose out of the moss and sat on a rock. He pulled out a violin and began to play Canon in D. He watched as a red fox came out of a hiding place to listen. The fox sat on the ground and stared up as VG, looking into the white eyes that are on VG's mask. VG's eternal smile brightened as he played on for his audience.

Sveltt padded quietly along the mossy terrain, tail rippling. He thought about the beings he had spoken to earlier. Would he see them again? He hoped so. They seemed respectable, if a little excitable for his taste.
He paused, one paw held to his chest, ears pricking up and 'earrings' of gold sparkling in the dappled light.
Something was making an entrancing sound. He changed direction and soon weaved his way through the reasonably sparse trees, and joined the fox. It glanced at him for a brief moment, but seemed more interested in the music. Besides, he had a calming air about him.
And so, apparently, did the music. Sveltt was transfixed.

VG finished his song and put down the violin. He took a deep breath. "Hello," he said to Sveltt before falling backwards off of the rock. He stood up and looked to Sveltt again and said, "What's your name?"

Sveltt blinked at him in silence for a moment. This person interested him somewhat. Rather spontaneous, yet still civilised enough to play such a renowned tune.
"Good day, sir. My parents named me Sveltt. I overheard your music," he nodded to the discarded violin, "and I must say, you've quite the talent for it."

VG's smile glowed, "Why thank you, I do like to practice." VG let out a low cough and his happiness seemed to disappear. He pulled out a flask filled with some mysterious liquid and took a swig. He pulled out another flask and held it out to Sveltt, "Would you like some?"

Sveltt's ears swivelled very slightly backwards a few degrees. He lifted his nose and took a very short sniff, then shook his head. "No thank you. I limit myself to water. Forgive me for asking, but is there something wrong? You seemed to be in a lighter mood when you were playing the violin."

"Well, it's nothing," VG said through a radiant smile. He took a sip of his chocolate milk, "I'm new here, what is this place?"

Sveltt smiled for the first time in quite a while. He felt good-natured today. Maybe it was the rain that he knew was coming, or maybe it was just this person's cheerful attitude.
"You wouldn't be the only one. Portals to other worlds have been opening up and spitting out newcomers all over the place, then closing before anyone can see the other side." He tilted his head slightly to the left. "Doesn't matter where you're from. People almost always find Perenar to be a beautiful region." He yawned widely, exposing perfect white teeth. "Anyway, right now you're situated in Peacock Woods. No one really knows who named these places; they're too old."

VG's smile glowed, "A portal, how wonderful. I am ecstatic to get off of that miserable little planet. I love the place like a child, but it gets old." VG walked over to a tree and ran his hands down it. He tilted his head, "What a marvelous place," he turned to Sveltt, "are there any cities here?" VG thought about something and then asked, "How about a temple?"

Sveltt nodded happily, tail uncoiling from around his feet as he stood up. "I hope you enjoy being here. It seems that the intentions of most newcomers are to get home as soon as possible without doing any sightseeing first." He glanced up at the sky for a while, deep in thought. "Yes... I believe there is a temple. But," he added, "I know not if it is near or far. It is rumoured about, but so far goes undiscovered." He sighed. "And I think I will never know. But enough of myths, Primia City is not too far from here. I will lead, if you like."

VG smiled, "That would be wonderful, my dear." He took a sip of his chocolate milk and swished it around in his mouth. After a few moments, he swallowed. He thought for a moment, "Let us travel to the city of the realm."

Sveltt nodded. "To the East, then." The star on his forehead winked brightly for a second, though it could have easily just caught the sunlight, and he turned to face East. Checking to make sure VG was following him, he set off at a reasonable pace.
